Zee Network has bagged the satellite rights for 2.0 (Enthiran 2.0) for a whopping 110 cr for all the three language versions (Tamil, Telugu and Hindi) of the film, according to industry sources.
The film is a sequel to Rajnikanth’s 2010 blockbuster Enthiran (released as Robot in Hindi). Rajnikanth, the main lead in both the editions will reprise his dual roles as Dr. Vaseegaran and Chitti- The Robot in 2.0.
The sequel, starring Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar, is touted to be the second costliest film in Asia at an estimated value of ₹400 cr.
Creative Head of Lyca Productions, Raju Mahalingam, confirmed the news that the filmmakers have partnered with the network. “It’s TRUE” Lyca Productions’s gets a partner in Zee for our Mega Opus 2.0 Satellite!!!,” he posted on his Twitter account.
The film’s shooting is almost over. Alike Robot, 2.0 is said to be heavy on special effects, and thus the post-production process is expected to go on for seven months. The filmmakers have used 3D cameras in the making of the film, rather than shooting in 2D and then converting it to 3D, which is a first in India. The makers have also planned to facilitate theatres across the country to upgrade to 3D technology.
2.0 also stars Amy Jackson, Sudhanshu Pandey and Adil Hussain. The film, which is bankrolled by Lyca Productions, is slated for a Diwali release this year.
