Singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran will be making a guest appearance in the seventh series of the HBO fantasy drama (GOT).
The show’s creators, David Benioff and DB Weiss, revealed Sheeran’s involvement during an event at the South By Southwest festival in Texas.
The British megastar seemed to confirm the news by posting a link on Twitter to a news story about his casting.
“Guess the cat’s out the bag …” Ed tweeted.
In a conversation moderated by stars Maisie Williams and Sophie Turner at the event, Benioff said they had tried for years to land Sheeran as a surprise for Williams, who is a huge fan. This is the year they finally made it happen.
Further details on Sheeran’s role were not given.
The singer would not be the first musician to make a cameo in the show – Coldplay’s Will Champion, Snow Patrol’s Gary Lightbody and members of Sigur Ros, Of Monsters and Men and Mastodon have been a part of it in the previous seasons.
In addition to Sheeran, Weiss and Benioff also confirmed rumours that the final season of the show (in 2018) would consist of only six episodes.
The seventh season (and Sheeran) will hit the TV screens on July 16, this year.
