Gandhi comes to Rishikesh: Criticises Modi while displaying his torn pocket to the crowds

rahul gRahul Gandhi addressed Congress party workers in Rishikesh, ahead of the upcoming assembly elections in Uttarakhand.

The Congress vice-president, while addressing party workers in poll-bound Uttarakhand, attacked the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) by saying that the extreme right wing group has no respect for the flag, as they did not hoist the national flag at their headquarters in Nagpur till after 52 years of independence.

While addressing the crowds in Rishikesh, Gandhi said that, “Since 7-8 months I am researching, I even googled about our party to see what is it that BJP-RSS want to destroy.”

Gandhi also spoke on the short lived, but nonetheless raging debate on the Khadi calendar row, calling the Prime Minister out for removing Mahatma Gandhi’s image from the calendar, a man who, said Gandhi, sacrificed his life for the country.

The Congress VP also went on to criticise the government over the demonetisation drive, along with dampening the credibility of the Reserve Bank of India.

He said that, with his demonetisation move, he has destroyed an autonomous institution like the RBI.

He added by saying that, “Congress Party made and strengthened RBI so that there is a body which is not under government’s pressure as it takes economic decisions. But in a minute the soul of this institution was murdered by Modi Ji.”

The One Rank One Pension issue was also picked upon by Gandhi, as he asked the Prime Minister to take a swift call on resolving the issue, just as he did with demonetisation.

PTI1_16_2017_000168BRahul also managed to get a hoot from the crowd for his phatta kurta antic.

While critising the PM and his government, Gandhi stopped his speech mid-way so he could give the crowds a glimpse of his torn pocket.

Holding his pocket out for the crowds to see, Gandhi said, “Mera kurta phata hua hai…lekin Modiji ka kurta kabhi phata hua nahi milta. Bade paisewalon ke saath unki photo milegi  (See, I wear torn kurta. You’ll never find Modiji wearing a torn kurta. He can only be spotted with the rich and powerful of the world.)

“I am doing politics for the poor. Modiji’s photo appears with the super-rich,” Gandhi added.

Rahul continued to Mock Modi, this time, by critising his so called expertise in the field of Yoga, by advising the PM to do a ‘tapasya’.

“The BJP divides people but the Congress works for the unity of the society. Modiji thodi tapasya kijiye, thoda yoga kijiye…The world should see that our PM does yoga for which he is the brand ambassador,” the Congress scion said.
