The Indian contingent breathed a sigh of relief after beating New Zealand 3-1, in the Davis Cup

Asia/Oceania Group 1 match at the Balewadi Sports Complex in Pune.
Ramkumar Ramanathan won both his singles matches against New Zealand, allowing India to take the important opening lead. In the final game, Ramkumar Ramanathan beat Finn Tearney 7-5, 6-1, 6-0 ensuring India qualified to the next round of this years’ Davis Cup tournament.
Ramkumar’s win against Tearney came as a relief after Vishnu Vardhan and veteran Leander Paes’s shock loss in the doubles match up earlier in the tournament.
Ramanathan and Tearney fought hard and won the first set 7-5, but once Ramanathan took the first set, he blazed off to sink his opponent 6-1 and 6-0 in the next two sets quite easily.
