The Indian Premier League (IPL) auction is now slated for later this month on February 20. After the earlier delay in announcing the dates, the IPL auction is now set in motion with the tournament scheduled to begin on April 5. The player auction ahead of the 2017 season of the IPL will be held in Bangalore.
The auction was earlier supposed to take place on February 4; however due to the current overhaul taking place for greater transparency under orders from the Supreme Court of India the system has been paralysed for efficacy.
The BCCI stated, so far, more than 750 players had registered for the auction. The deadline for player registrations ended on February 3, 2017.
Each IPL franchise is allowed up to 27 players in its squad, including a maximum of 9 overseas players.
The purse limit for each team has been capped at INR 66 crore (approximately $10 million).
This will be the last IPL season before all players from all teams go back in the auction pool, apart from those whom the franchises retain. The contracts for the existing player will expire after IPL 2017 ahead of the 2018 season.
