Believe it or not, finding a tiny house to rent is just as easy as renting a full-sized house. Tiny homes are becoming increasingly popular, so there are plenty of them out there!

The great thing about renting a tiny house is that most owners make their homes as comfortable as possible. While you can’t add anything major like extra rooms (except for maybe storage), many people who live in tiny homes choose to rent them because they have all the amenities of a regular home, only smaller.

Here are eight tips when you’re going to be renting your own tiny house:

Get Pre-Approved for Rent

Before You Look Do this before you start looking. A pre-approval letter shows landlords that you are a serious renter who will be able to pay your rent on time. It also shows them that you are financially stable, so it helps give you an advantage over others who look at the house.


Once you have a pre-approval letter, make sure to look for a place before everyone else does! The sooner you find something, the better chances of securing one. Most places have their houses open from about six months to a year, though, so don’t worry too much if you don’t get right in there and start looking as soon as your plan is approved!

Look For Houses That Allow Commercial Lease Applications

If they allow commercial lease applications, you will be able to put your pre-approval letter in the application and show it off! This is a great way to secure your tiny house.

Make Sure There Are No Major Upgrades Needed

If you have enough money set aside for this, then you may not want to look at places that need significant upgrades just yet. If you are renting the place as is, then make sure there are no significant problems with the building or plumbing that needs fixing before moving in. You don’t want to move into a place and then find out a few weeks later that the pipes burst. Having repairs done while living in the residence can be very stressful, so being prepared for anything will help relieve some of that stress.

Make Sure There Are Enough Utilities for You

Depending on where you live, some tiny homes might have different electrical setups than others. To be sure there are enough utilities to support your life/home, run a test before the move.

Have Your Own Furniture

In most cases, even if you get approved for commercial lease applications, you will still need to provide most of your own furniture and appliances (like washer, dryer, refrigerator). It does help to have them in the beginning, so it is easier when moving in. Some tiny house owners may let you borrow theirs, but that will all depend on who you talk with! Find One Without Pets Not everyone will want pets in their home, so it’s best to find one that doesn’t have any.

Check the Bathrooms

Most tiny homes and apartments are pretty small, so this can be tricky. First, make sure you look at the bathrooms \to see if they will fit your needs and the size of whoever will live with you. You don’t want to get approved for a home only to find out it won’t work for someone in your household!

Know What Your Monthly Cost Will Be

Make sure you sit down and do the math before doing anything else when looking for a new house. Once you know how much everything will cost each month, then we will know whether or not we can afford it. Most people forget about electricity bills or other utilities, which are usually slightly higher in apartments. Make sure you take those into account when doing your homework!
