In Greek, Philia is defined as a close friendship or brotherly love. Philia is one of those four love types that are mentioned in the Bible. To describe a love of equals or those united in a common purpose, good, pursuit, and end. St. Augustine and Bishop of Hippo understood this kind of love.

Philia is based on shared devotion, mutual respect, common values, and joint interests. It can be defined as the love that exists in dear friends. There is a strong feeling of attraction in Philia. In Bible, it has explained as the most common form of love.

It includes care, compassion, and respect among the people. A close friendship is the most common example of Philia. As per the Strong’s Concordance, Phileo, the Greek verb, is related to the Philia noun. It means – showing a warm feeling in a close friendship.

Phileo and Philia both are originated from Philos. It is a Greek noun that means beloved, dear, a friend. Philosophy is used to define dearly loved someone, the feeling of intimacy, a trusted person. One can express Philos for experience-based love.

Loving anything shiny falls in this category. When one easily got attractions by something shiny, glittery, and sparkly things. They are typically like a crow. This type of attraction is known as Chrysophile.

Tropophile

When one visits a tropical island in most of their holidays, they love sand between their toes, have a cocktail in hand, and relaxing around in a hammock. Then it is most likely that they have Tropophile.

Why in Friendship Philia is Important

According to Aristotle, there are mainly three types of friendship. One can establish these types based on what one gets from the relationship.

  • Useful- This refers to a connection between both the person and one gets something from that friendship. This type of friendship leads to something that one desires a lot, such as a job, medicine, or business contact.
  • Pleasure- This refers to when one keeps a friendship because of the pleasure they get from it. Examples of this can be hanging with friends, talking with them, going on a trip, etc.
  • Virtue refers to a true friendship; it doesn’t depend on things one gets from that relationship. In this friendship, there is a deep connection between them. One considers other’s welfare in this type of relation.

A healthy friendship is a necessary thing in life. Mutually beneficial is the best type of love one can maintain to keep a friendship healthy. If one keeps mutual beneficial, then it builds a type of relationship based on companionship and trust.

These things are very important; it keeps one’s relationship long-lasting and healthy. Both of them contribute to the relation. In this way, a deep relationship among any two-person forms and it also let both of them grow as a good person. This type of friendship is important to live a life in a better way. Both of them enjoy their connection and loves to spend time with each other.
